Nature's Cleaning Arsenal: Using Essential Oils for Green Cleaning

Essential oils can be a great addition to your green cleaning routine! Not only do they add a pleasant scent to your cleaning products, but many essential oils also have antibacterial and antifungal properties, making them effective for cleaning and disinfecting surfaces.

Here are a few essential oils and their cleaning uses:

  • Lemon oil: Lemon oil is a great degreaser and can be used to clean kitchen surfaces, stovetops, and greasy pans. It also has a fresh and clean scent.

  • Tea tree oil: Tea tree oil has antibacterial and antifungal properties, making it great for cleaning bathrooms and other areas where germs may be present.

  • Lavender oil: Lavender oil has a calming scent and can be added to your laundry detergent to make your clothes smell fresh and clean.

  • Peppermint oil: Peppermint oil has a refreshing scent and can be used to clean surfaces and freshen the air.

  • Eucalyptus oil: Eucalyptus oil has a fresh and clean scent and can be used to clean and disinfect surfaces.

*Special Note:  When using essential oils for cleaning, it's important to remember to dilute them with water or another carrier oil, as they can be very potent and may cause skin irritation if used at full strength. Also, be sure to research the specific oil you're using to ensure that it is safe for cleaning and won't damage the surface you're cleaning.
